Thanks to you, the Alberta Cancer Foundation was able to invest $29.2 million last year to help push the pace of discovery and translate that knowledge into better, more effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. You have helped identify approaches to help people lower their risk of developing cancer.

Thanks to you, the Alberta Cancer Foundation has been able to continue its rich history of funding innovation, delivering the highest-quality patient care and educating the next generation of bright minds.  From the creation of a comprehensive patient journal that helps ease the cancer journey for those 16,000 Albertans who hear the words, “you have cancer,” to the development of the world’s first MR-Linac machine that allows clinicians to deliver more precise radiation, you powered progress.

Thank you, Albertans. Over the last year more than 200,000 volunteers, participants, sponsors and donors helped fund progress toward a cancer-free future, allowing us to invest $29.2 million across the province. Here’s how:

19,000 donors responded generously to online and mail campaigns with gifts totally more than $2.8 million

$5.1 million raised by thousands of Albertans who participated in more than 400 community events

45 Albertans left a legacy for future generations through planned gifts and estate gifts totaling more than $3.9 million

2,707 participants in the Underwear Affair raised more than $1.8 million for research impacting cancers below the waist

$1.1 million from 12,000 memorial gifts to honour loved ones lost to cancer

1,855 participants, crew members and volunteers and 50,000 individual donors raised $4.8 million in the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers and celebrated the investment of more than $24 million into breast cancer research and screening programs in just six years

200 kms cycled by almost 1900 participants in Enbridge’s Ride to Conquer Cancer and along with 60,000 individual donors raised $8.1 million

$1.1 million netted from the 11th Annual Cash and Cars Lottery in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, bringing in a total of more than $10 million in the past decade to be shared by both charities

190 individual and corporate philanthropists gave $6.4 million in transformational gifts

We wish we could share every story that makes up Alberta’s cancer-free movement. This Report to Donors is a small sample of philanthropists, donors, event organizers, participants, volunteers, researchers and medical teams.

For those facing cancer today, in honour of those lost to cancer and for generations to come, we promise progress.
